The start of summer is nearly a month away; Americans begin unofficially summering Memorial weekend. For most of us, extended evenings, BBQs, the aromatics of the ocean’s saltwater, and vacation plans come to mind. Anything outside the mainstream “bubble” is a vacation mood, and you are probably vacationing in your head. Did I refer to your Twitter (likely Facebook if you are over 50) feed as outside of the bubble?
With some of us coming off a multi-year hiatus, myself included, travel giants, are projecting 2022 as one of the busiest travel seasons yet. It’s not just Americans bursting with travel anticipation. Still, European bookings will surpass 2021 by 80%. You may wonder what makes this summer so different from last year considering vaccines were in place, and many travel restrictions began lifting. Well, the US in many ways leads the path for lifting restrictions. Australia, several EU countries, the Caribbean, and our own Hawaii were later to enlist. What this means for all of us is we can once again be global citizens with the ease of travel connectivity.
The magic of summer is the ability to lose yourself with permission. Whether it’s “revenge travel”, a nod to 2021, or “impact travel” (very 2022), what is your ideal travel escapism? I have compiled a few of my favorite summer travel inspirations (trends) for 2022.
• Dream Trips aka Live in the Now – I like this one because it encourages us to dream, but more importantly, life is not a promise, and we can live out our goals today.
• Family Travel – Need I say more?
• Europe – Europe is now experiencing a resurgence from Americans after a couple of years’ hiatus. Americans once again dream of European travels. Europe has always been on a destination checklist for American travelers. Croissants at an outdoor café in Paris while people watching, walking through history and food in Rome, Czech just because your friends have not, London because you love NYC, and emerging Croatia because staying at a seaside hotel sounds romantic.
• “Impact Travel”– Traveling with a conscious is at the center of travel for 96% of respondents to a recent Kind Traveler survey. Everything from the hotel you select to the restaurants you dine in all while on vacation is carefully curated, making sure the impact on the community is positive. Typically, hotels take part in environmentally safe practices and dining experiences with sometimes lesser-known establishments that enrich the communities in which they reside.
• Eco-Friendly Luggage – Because it is good to be kind to people and the planet.
